Heavy-duty trucks are more powerful than ever, and many drivers choose them because of their trailering capability. No other vehicle allows you to tow heavy trailers like a heavy-duty truck. In addition, these models feature an expansive bed that provides the best way to transport heavy cargo. The 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 HD brings towing to new heights and offers exceptional performance with its powertrains. If you want to take things to a new level, visit Jim Ellis Buick GMC Mall of Georgia to start your journey.

Engines With Maximum Towing Capability

All 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 HD models have a standard gas engine, except for the all-new Denali Ultimate. The standard engine is a 6.6-liter V8 gas engine paired with an Allison ten-speed automatic transmission. This engine has 16 valves, which deliver 401 hp at 5200 RPM and 464 lb-ft of torque at 4000 RPM.

The Denali Ultimate comes standard with a 6.6-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 engine and an Allison ten-speed automatic transmission. This engine is also available on the other trim levels. An engine block heater helps you get it going on cold winter mornings, and an engine after-run feature allows it to cool down after running for a while. This engine has a dual overhead camshaft configuration, with 32 valves for its eight cylinders. This turbocharged and intercooled engine will deliver an impressive 470 hp at 2800 RPM and 975 lb-ft of torque at 1600 RPM.

As you would probably expect, the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 HD with the turbo-diesel engine gives the maximum trailering capability. The Sierra 3500 HD can tow up to 36,000 lbs when equipped with a turbo-diesel. This is almost double the maximum trailering of the same truck with the gas engine, which is 19,150 lbs.

Several factors will affect how much your specific GMC Sierra 3500 HD can tow. For example, choosing a regular or double cab, only available on the Pro and SLE models, will increase trailering capability compared to models with a crew cab. Of course, a crew cab will give you a roomier passenger compartment. A crew cab is also the only style available on the SLT, Denali, AT4, and Denali Ultimate models. In addition, choosing a rear-wheel drive over a four-wheel drive and a dual-rear-wheel will increase the amount you can tow with your truck.

Advanced Trailering Technology with the ProGrade Trailering System

GMC offers more trailering assistance technologies on the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 HD than any heavy-duty truck. These items make hitching a trailer to your vehicle and towing it in traffic more convenient. The key is utilizing advanced technology to improve your safety and that of other vehicles you may encounter on the road.

One of the biggest problems when trailering is losing the ability to see vehicles behind your truck. This is especially true when using a gooseneck hitch. An obstructed view can lead to some real problems, especially when you go to change lanes. This is why GMC offers an enhanced Transparent Trailer View. This ingenious system uses two cameras as well as advanced computing technology.

By taking the view from the camera mounted in the rear of the truck and adding an accessory camera mounted in the rear of the trailer, the system can combine the two images to show you what is behind your Sierra 3500 HD as if the trailer were not there. If you plan on towing large trailers that will obstruct the view behind your truck, this is an optional feature you should strongly consider.

Changing lanes when towing can be a real hassle. The trailer creates an extended blind spot by each side of your truck. Fortunately, if you opt for the available Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, the system will extend the range of the blind zone alert to the rear of your trailer. When you signal to change lanes, the system will let you know when the coast is clear. This will come in handy when traveling around some of the busiest highways in Georgia.

The 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 HD also features an all-new GCW Alert. One of the most challenging things to assess is the total gross combined weight between your truck and your trailer. You can seriously damage your Sierra 3500 HD’s suspension system if you don’t judge correctly. The GCW Alert takes all the guessing and estimation out of the process. Now, if you hitch a trailer that exceeds your truck’s Gross Combined Weight Rating, the system will alert you so you can take steps to reduce weight.

GMC also offers a new version of Adaptive Cruise Control designed for trailering. This will consider the additional drag caused by trailering when accelerating and the greater braking distance needed. As with the regular Adaptive Cruise Control feature, this will automatically adjust your speed to traffic conditions, slowing down when a slower vehicle gets in front of your GMC Sierra 3500 HD.

When you choose the Sierra 3500 HD, you can get up to 14 available camera views, including many explicitly designed for trailering. Hitch Guidance with Hitch View will provide a view of the hitch so you can line it up correctly. A Bed View with Zoom and Bed Hitch Guidance is designed for use with fifth wheel and gooseneck hitches. Finally, the Rear Side View with Trailer Length Indicator shows you the view on each side of your Sierra 3500 HD. When used with the available Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, this will allow you to change lanes with great peace of mind.

The 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 HD is Built for Hauling Heavy Loads

Many of our customers who want a heavy truck for trailering also want one capable of cargo-carrying capabilities. This is undoubtedly the case with the 2024 Sierra 3500 HD. Models with the 6.6-liter V8 gas engine can carry up to 7,290 lbs in their payload box, while those with the available 6.6-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 can carry up to 6,644 lbs of cargo.

Most models of the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 HD come with a long bed, which measures 8’2” in length. This has a cargo box with 83.5 cu.ft. of space for your items. Certain models with a crew cab also give you the option of choosing a 6’9” standard box. This has space for up to 69.6 cu.ft. of cargo. A GMC MultiPro tailgate comes standard on all models except the Pro, which is available as an optional feature. This will make accessing your payload bed easier with six different functions designed to improve loading and unloading cargo.
