The 2026 GMC Canyon has a slightly tweaked lineup for this model year, with the return of a popular trim and the introduction of a special new package for select trims. This makes the upscale midsize pickup truck an enticing option for those in the market for a capable, light-duty pickup that offers more than a touch of luxury. You can choose from four trims of the 2026 Canyon, starting with the Elevation, followed by the AT4, the returning AT4X, and the upscale Denali.

One of the major new features for the year is the introduction of the Nightfall Essential Package, exclusive to the AT4 trim, which includes all-terrain tires, 20-inch high-gloss black aluminum wheels, and black badging. However, if you want the black badging for other trims, you can opt for the Black Badging Package on the AT4X. Additionally, the AT4X has exclusive access to the AT4X AEV Edition, which includes a bed-mounted vertical spare tire carrier, AEV-stamped steel skid plates, and AEV badging.

Another new addition to the 2026 Canyon is the Coastal Dune exterior color, joining six other colors for the year’s lineup. Shoppers can choose from Sterling Metallic, Volcanic Red Tintcoat, Summit White, Onyx Black, Glacier Metallic, or Rapids Metallic. This gives you multiple ways to make the 2026 GMC Canyon distinctly yours in terms of visual aesthetics.

Power & Efficiency

The highly regarded 2.7-liter TurboMax powers every trim of the 2026 GMC Canyon. This turbocharged inline four-cylinder makes an impressive 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that provides smoother acceleration. Integrated grade braking is also standard, which helps reduce brake wear while enhancing stability and vehicle control. The 2026 Canyon also features multiple drive modes, including Tow/Haul Mode, which allows you to easily adjust the truck’s performance when towing or hauling.

Every Canyon can be configured in rear-wheel or four-wheel drive, depending on your preference for your midsize truck. This also determines your fuel economy. To maximize the truck’s range, rear-wheel drive offers the best fuel economy, achieving up to 19 MPG in the city and 23 MPG on the highway. However, to get the most out of the Canyon’s traction control and stability, four-wheel drive is the preferred option, which achieves a fuel economy of 17 MPG in the city and 21 MPG on the highway.

Electric power steering helps increase steering response and stability, while the Autotrac two-speed transfer case provides multiple options and enhanced functionality for four-wheel drive models. You have 2WD HI, 4WD Auto, and 4WD LO. Each mode is designed for different use cases, from standard daily driving to utilizing the low-end torque to get through difficult terrain, snow, or off-road situations.

To help maintain stability on the road, every trim comes with StabiliTrak. This includes brake assist, automatic traction control that engages when slippage is detected, and engine torque regulation. This also works with trailering, so you have a reliable midsize truck that can get you to your destination with your load, without worrying about drifting, hydroplaning, or skidding off the road.

Additionally, every Canyon comes with an integrated trailer brake controller, providing an added sense of stability when braking while towing large loads. There is even trailer gain and output displayed via the digital driver display, so you have complete control over how the 2026 GMC Canyon towing performs during work or recreation.

Utility & Capabilities

Many potential truck shoppers expect the GMC Canyon to have great performance, but what you might be shocked at is just how capable and utilitarian the Canyon is for a midsize truck. It has a max towing rating of 7,700 lbs and a max payload capacity of 1,640 lbs. This is achieved thanks to the lightweight and high-strength steel boxed frame. Every Canyon comes configured with a crew cab that seats up to five people and a 5.1-foot bed box that has a max cargo volume of 41.9 cu.ft.

The added functionality of the EZ-Lift & Lower tailgate also helps you get in and out of the box or store items with ease, thanks to the internal torsion bar that reduces the effort required to open the tailgate. There is also the option of remote locking the tailgate, providing quick accessibility and security when you’re ready to load or unload cargo. The MultiStow tailgate also allows you to store items inside its hidden storage area. Additionally, the available spray-on bedliner provides extra protection for the items you secure using the cargo tie-downs.

The suspension has also been designed to accommodate various work tasks and off-road adventures. The two-inch factory lift kit and ultra-wide stance provide you with the extra ground clearance, whether it’s fording water or trudging through mud. The performance skid plates also ensure the undercarriage is protected, giving you some added confidence for when you decide to travel off the beaten path.

From rock crawling to hill climbs, you’ll be able to take the 2026 Canyon to less-traveled areas with ease. Alternatively, this works well for those who spend a lot of time at construction sites or recreational areas, where uneven terrain can prove difficult to traverse.

Hill Descent Control maximizes the Canyon’s capabilities for controlled declines, all without requiring the use of the brake pedal. This is perfect if you regularly tow or haul cargo up or downhill, or if you frequently drive through areas with undulating roads. You have also added off-road and stability capabilities with the automatic locking rear differential. It senses the wheel speed and can automatically lock both rear wheels in unison for added traction control.

And for those who want the ultimate off-road experience, the Multimatic jounce control dampers are available to provide you with valve-spool damping to give you improved off-road performance and rebound when traveling off-road.

Comfort & Convenience

Even with all its high-end performance capabilities, work-ready utility, and off-road functionality, the 2026 GMC Canyon still manages to offer equal amounts of luxury and convenience both around and inside the cabin. You have chrome accents, door handles, and mirror caps for the Denali. These coincide well with the acoustic laminated windshield, deep-tinted glass, and the available power sunroof.

The four-door, five-seater provides a robust cockpit featuring numerous thoughtful amenities, ample storage capacity, and relaxing space. Heated and ventilated power seats feature separate buttons for three levels of fan circulation. Depending on the vehicle’s interior temperature, the ventilated seats can also be set to automatically turn on.

Driver memory settings also enable you to set the seat position and have it remember it every time you enter the vehicle. When it comes to seating material, the Elevation trim comes standard with cloth seating. The AT4 features CoreTec and cloth but can be upgraded to perforated leather. The AT4X and Denali both come standard with leather.

A soft-touch instrument panel, carpeted floor mats, and a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel add to the luxury appeal. Conveniences such as power windows and locks, armrest storage, interior lights, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror help make the Canyon versatile for both short errands and long commutes.

The dual-zone automatic climate control also ensures the cabin remains regulated when multiple passengers are riding in the vehicle. This makes the 2026 Canyon an excellent choice as a midsize family truck or a luxury-oriented work truck.

Safety & Connectivity Tech

Complementing the many conveniences, performance, and utility features of the 2026 Canyon is a robust safety and infotainment suite. GMC’s safety systems include a set of passive and active features. The vehicle has a comprehensive cabin airbag system, as well as a theft-deterrent system. Other advanced assists include the Safety Alert Seat, which uses seat vibrations to help you identify potential hazards in the road.

Active assists, such as automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and lane keep assist with lane departure warning, help keep the Canyon on the road and mitigate potential accidents. Buckle-to-Drive and Teen Driver also make the midsize truck an excellent family vehicle, with Teen Driver offering pre-launch safety checks and report cards for parents to monitor when their teens get behind the wheel.

Additional safety systems, such as OnStar support, help with accessing emergency services. Meanwhile, features like available HD Surround Vision work in conjunction with the touchscreen to provide a clear view of the vehicle, thanks to the cameras and sensors.

Every 2026 Canyon comes with an 11-inch driver information center and an accompanying 11.3-inch GMC Premium Infotainment System with Google built-in. This enables you to access features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as SiriusXM satellite radio. Bluetooth wireless support for smartphone projection and media access makes the Canyon an excellent companion for media during long drives.

In-vehicle trailering apps and vehicle health systems can also easily be accessed from the touchscreen. This makes it convenient to keep track of the Canyon and monitor your trailer from the cabin. What’s more, you have access to wireless charging, allowing you to keep your smart devices charged while on the go, making it convenient to stay connected and charged without the need for cords.
