Revamped, updated, and improved to be more powerful, more practical, and more functional than ever before, the 2024 Sierra 3500 HD is a one-ton pickup that will not be ignored. GMC has set itself apart from the competition in the full-size truck space by constantly pushing the boundaries on the expectations of a heavy-duty pickup, and the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 HD is a prime example of the brand's dedication to trucking excellence. This year's 3500 gives rival trucks in the segment, such as the Super Duty F-350 and Ram 3500, a serious run for their money by offering up a lot of great new features for the 2024 model year.

The revamped GMC Sierra 3500 HD seats up to six people and is available in multiple cab and bed configurations. This truck features an all-new, upgraded powertrain performance ceiling, delivering more horsepower and 25% more low-end torque. Additionally, an all-new HD infotainment stack and more available trailering assists have been added, including additional cameras as part of the GMC ProGrade Trailering System. Many other changes have been made for the 2024 model year, including all-new 22-inch accessory wheels, all-new wheel designs for various trims, and all-new polished 18-inch aluminum wheels for the dual-rear-wheel configuration of the truck.

The new changes don't end there, though, as the 2024 Sierra 3500 HD also has an all-new fascia featuring a newly designed front bumper, all-new animated exterior approach lights, and all-new rear wheelhouse liners. The 3500 HD also has six new exterior paint colors—Titanium Rush Metallic, Sterling Metallic, Volcanic Red Tintcoat, Redwood Metallic, Meteorite Metallic, and Downpour Metallic. One of the most important new updates is the addition of the Denali Ultimate HD trim level, with lots of high-end luxury features and exterior accents. This joins the line-up of five other trims—the Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, and the Denali.

The Sierra 3500 Handles It All

The 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 HD is powered by two different powertrains, which includes a 6.6-liter V8 that produces 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. The second is the 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V8 that provides up to 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque. Each engine is paired with an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission that includes Auto Grade braking that can downshift to enable engine braking on downhill slopes. There is also a Tow/Haul mode that improves the 3500's cooling and reduces frequent shift cycles to help with heavy towing and trailing.

The 2024 Sierra 3500 HD also comes in either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive configurations with the option of dual-rear wheel configurations for towing and hauling extremely heavy loads. The SLT trim line also includes the Eaton Locker, which is an automatic locking rear differential to help stabilize the GMC 3500 HD by locking both the rear wheels to improve traction control and help with gaining and maintaining grip. Select trims configured in four-wheel drive also come with the Autotrac two-speed transfer case, featuring multiple drive modes via a four-button control system. The driver has access to 2WD High, 4WD High, 4WD Lo, and Auto settings. These options are perfect for drivers who need a truck that can adapt to their needs on the fly.

Available heavy-duty battery, diesel exhaust brake, and digital variable steering assist also help add to the Silverado 3500 HD's performance capabilities. The Denali trim line even includes an external auxiliary transmission oil cooler, which is essential for those who tow heavy loads, along with an accompanying external engine oil cooler. A heavy-duty air filter and available power take-off also help improve the overall performance and longevity of the truck. With features like StabiliTrak being a standard implementation across the entire 2024 model range, you have built-in systems for proactive roll avoidance and dynamic traction control to help ensure that the truck keeps moving—whether it's through bad weather or rough terrain.

  • Capabilities

Power and Performance Go Hand In Hand

The 2024 Sierra 3500 HD's capabilities are some of the best within the one-ton heavy-duty segment. The Sierra 3500 HD is capable of towing up to 19,150 lbs when properly equipped with the 6.6-liter V8 gas-powered engine. The V8 gas-powered engine for 2024 has actually seen a bump up in total trailering capacity from the last model year, adding 150 lbs to the total trailering capacity provided by the V8 gas-powered engine. You can improve the trailering capacity significantly with the Duramax turbo-diesel, where the max trailering capacity scales all the way up to 36,000 lbs. for gooseneck and fifth-wheel trailers.

Both engines also offer startling payload capacity as well. The Duramax V8 provides up to 6,644 lbs of total payload capacity, which adds a lot of utility to the Sierra 3500 HD, especially for those who need to haul multiple tonnage in the truck. The 6.6-liter V8 gas-powered engine ramps up the payload capacity by enabling you to haul up to 7,290 lbs.

There is also the added utility for the GMC Sierra 3500 HD in the form of front tow hooks, available assist steps for getting into and out of the vehicle, as well as trailering mirrors. Additional utility includes a corner-step rear bumper for easy access to the inner cargo bed and rain-sense wipers. Another big highlight for the GMC Sierra 3500 HD, starting with the SLE trim, is the standard inclusion of the GMC MultiPro Tailgate. This is a highly functional addition to the Sierra 3500 HD, as it provides you with six different settings, including having an inner gate that can be used as a load stop at different levels, a work surface, and as a step-in for the bed. This is an invaluable piece of equipment that raises the versatility of the Sierra 3500 HD's capabilities, especially for those who need a handy work-site truck.

  • Convenience

Driver and Passenger Comfort and Convenience

The focus on utility and performance for the GMC Sierra 3500 HD is enticing for many truckers, but what good is a great functioning truck that isn't comfortable or convenient to use? That's where the GMC Sierra 3500 HD really excels because it's not just a great utility vehicle; it's also a great vehicle to drive, thanks to its many conveniences and creature comforts. You have a lot of amenities to access from within the cabin, which can be configured as a regular cab, a double cab, or a crew cab, and seating for up to six people across two rows.

Inside, you have an available 10-way power driver seat with lumbar support and a matching 10-way power front passenger seat. With trims like the Denali and Denali Ultimate, you have access to upscale cabin materials, such as the Alpine Umber full-grain leather seating surfaces or the Atmosphere /Brownstone forged perforated leather seats. Dual-zone automatic climate control, exterior temperature display, and features like the heated and wrapped leather steering wheel and seats help give the interior cabin a welcoming feeling.

The convenience factors also extend to the safety and tech accouterments. You have the full GMC Safety Assist suite of features standard across the line-up, with features like automatic emergency braking, hill descent control, and forward collision alert with front pedestrian braking, making life easier for you on the road. Beyond the driver-assists, you also have access to vehicle telemetry through an available heads-up display and an available 12.3-inch color driver information center with customizable profile screens. There is even a separate available 13.4-inch HD GMC Premium Infotainment System powered by the Google Built-In suite of services, which includes a voice-activated digital assistant, OnStar connectivity, Bluetooth wireless streaming for multiple devices, and integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This makes the 2024 Sierra 3500 HD a fully robust one-ton heavy-duty pickup truck that provides you with everything from form and functionality to comfort and convenience all in one package.
